Throughout Terms 1 and 2, members of the senior girl's volleyball team have been participating in a knock out tournament. This involved travelling to Bulli High School to use their indoor volleyball facilities to firstly play Kanahooka High. After a convincing win, out next school was Lake Illawarra High School. Again, we travelled to Bulli, though this time a little concerned when it was realised their coach had played volleyball at National level. No need to have worried, the girls again, won convincingly. This meant the team had made the South Coast Tournament, and the team travelled with Mr Heng to Nowra to play Kiama and Nowra High Schools.
Again, the girls were unbeaten, which meant and automatic invitation to the Combined High School State Volleyball Championships, held in Minto 26thand 27thJune, to play a series of games over the two days. While we won the first game, we were then in the draw with the top eight teams from the state, many of whom had state volleyball players and coaches. Although we did not win another game after that, the girls improved in their skills with every game we played.
Congratulations to all the girls for an outstanding performance in Corrimal High Schools first appearance at CHS! Lia Nawaui – big hitter on the net, Melati Nimeti – the apprentice, Gloria Nio – scary big serve, Tiava Nio – best setting hands, Kylamarie O'Gorman – consistent digger, Clare St George – consistent server, Angela Tiere – great set of hands, Bernadeth Valentin – back court digger specialist, Eboni Fraser, great all-rounder and of course, assistant coach Liam Rakua.
A big thank you to Mr Heng, Ms Arthur, Mr Abbott and Mr Mar for all their behind the scenes assistance regarding letters and paperwork, bus organisation and covering lessons to allowing Mrs Kennedy to drive the team both days.
