The Engage 2518 program is an alternate offer facilitated at the Bellambi Neighbourhood centre. The program provides an opportunity for students to achieve positive social, community and educational outcomes. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Corrimal Friday 1st December marked the second annual Carols in Corrimal and what a fantastic night it was. Making a connection and engaging the class As part of an initiative developed by Corrimal High School, Year 7E have been offered the opportunity to take part in a extra-curricular enrichment project. Over five sessions, the students of 7E will receive firsthand knowledge about the Aboriginal cultural heritage, dreaming, tools and more. Mural Opening 2017

Building a connection... On Wednesday the 1st November, Corrimal High School and artists Lani Balzan and Aunty May officially opened the local and cultural narrative piece which students have been designing over the last term. Lani, Aunty May and a small group of students worked collaboratively to create an outstanding mural depicting Birri Birri (Whale) using the ocean and sunset in the background. 2018 Resource Allocation Model funding

In October 2017, all NSW public schools will receive a 2018 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. Race Day in Action

CoS F1 Racers 2017

What a spectacular day... On the 6th of September participating students from our Community of Schools were invited to attend the CHS F1 in CoS Schools Race Day. The Year 4 students from Corrimal East, Corrimal, Towradgi and Bellambi Public School had been working on their F1 racers, folios and pit displays over terms 2 and 3 with Mr Foster and Mr Jacques as part of an interschool STEM initiative. F1 in Schools Regional Finals 2017

Hop to the Future! On the 5th of September, Corrimal High Schools team, the Racing Roos, entered the F1 in Schools Regional Competition. The students, Dylan Kramer, Ashton Vreman-Naughton, Tameryn Burchell and Dear Winitsinthu, had been working on their entry over the last month which included a fully coded website, two CNC milled racers, promotional material, pit display and more. NDIS continues its roll out across NSW

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) started in NSW in July 2016, rolling out across half of the state. The rollout for the rest of NSW started on 1 July 2017 and the NDIS will be fully rolled out by mid 2018. The NSW government is writing to the families of children and young people with disability who currently receive disability supports in the rollout areas to advise how and when they will enter the NDIS. South Coast Public Speaking

Speaking up a storm On the evening of August 22, Holy Spirit College held the annual South Coast Public Speaking Competition and this year saw us have a record field of 9 speakers. Unfortunately last minute illness meant the lovely Madeline Devitt was unable to compete for us, but the remaining team of Pirerangi Chase, Brandi Uppaphong, Steph Walford, Alliyah Sybell, Natalina Liberti, Tameryn Burchell, Maddison Lloyd and Vanessa Marcelo did an outstanding job of representing our school. Legacy Public Speaking

Leaving a Legacy On Thursday 3rd August, Madeleine Devitt and Brandi Uppaphong represented our school in the very prestigious Legacy Public Speaking Competition. They competed at Woonona High School in the zone final and despite being in Year 7 they were up against students as old as Year 10 and they represented their school with great pride. The girls put on an impressive show with a 5 minute prepared speech on interesting topics such as bycatch and the value of bees. On Friday 18th August, Corrimal High Boys 15s Basketball team completed at Beaton Park in the Regional competition. The team consisted of Arlyn Connolly; Kobe Mamo; Rangiuira Waremaki ; Matthew Coyne; Liam Petersen; Nhickkos Valentin ; Shane Jores; Jack Ziems & Lewis Grinshaw. How excellent... This term the PBL- Orange Class have been learning to use the equipment in the textiles rooms. They have bee using the iron and practicing their sewing machine skills making a variety of items. So far the class have made heat pillows, aprons, and a big chicken door stop. What excellent designs Year 8 Technology Manadatory have been busy re-discovering their sewing skills. Sydney Boatshow 2017

Sydney International Boat Show On the 16th of August, students from Year 9 and 10s Marine classes headed to Darling Harbour for an excursion to the Sydney International Boat Show. On this escapade, supervisor Andrew Laidler had them observe a bunch of boats - from 10cc to 400cc - and learn about general marine paraphernalia. Crossroads 2017

A step in the right direction... On the 10th of August, Year 11 participated in part one of the teenage health program Crossroads. It aims to educate the age group on youth-related problems, such as drug use, relationships, sexual health and mental health. In addition, the course will assist students to learn about safe driving (which will take place at Kembla Grange Racecourse on the 24th). Calves To Shine A Light On Dairy Careers

Cows Create Careers Farm Module is a six-week program that aims to increase the awareness of dairy industry careers in a very hands-on way. Secondary students are educated by rearing two three-week-old calves at school and the school is provided with dairy industry curriculum for Year 9/10 to at no cost. This Term Corrimal High School is taking part in this program with the Year 9/10 Agriculture class sharing the tasks of maintaining their shelter, feeding and grooming the two calves, Lucinda and Valentine. NSW schools will participate in the NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test from 14 August to 22 September. There is a lot of information for schools, students and parents on the NAPLAN Online transition website. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run' for schools to assess their technology as we prepare to transition to NAPLAN Online. Cougars Cup 2017

TITLE WINNERS SECOND YEAR IN A ROW! On the 1st August Corrimal High School butted heads with Woonona High for a second time at the 2nd Annual Cougar's Cup at Ziem's Park. With the sun out, it was a great day for all the parties involved. In the three matches of the day, two of our teams delivered smashing victories - the U14s Boys won at a solid 38-18, while the Open Girls demolished Woonona with a 44-8 victory. Zone Athletics Results On Friday 23rd June we had a record number of participants at the Illawarra Zone Athletics Championships. All students displayed excellent behaviour and sportsmanship on the day and are to be congratulated for their efforts and enthusiasm. The uniform on display

Uniform News

All students in NSW governments schools to follow the school uniform policy. For Corrimal High School this means wearing with pride our school uniform (or sports uniform if students have a PDHPE practical lesson or on a Wednesday sports day). There is also a Work Health and Safety requirement that students wear black leather covered shoes for their protection. The school community has decided that Corrimal High School is a school uniform school. The consistent wearing of correct school uniform is also an important employment related skill.... Read more

So very proud! On Friday the 16th June, our school hosted the Premier's Debating Challenge for our zone. Keira, Albion Park and Bowral attended for a day of rigorous debating. We debated three times. In our first debate we were defeated by Keira on the topic ‘That contact sports should be banned for under 18s' but I was amazed at the general knowledge of our team as they came up with many examples of contact sports and accidents. Keeping in local and engaging! On the 13th March 2017, six students across several year groups continued in the training for their refereeing and coaching qualification. Introducing Healthy School Canteens

The introduction of the revised Healthy School Canteen Strategy increases the availability of healthy food and drink options in school canteens to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. It replaces the Fresh Tastes@School Strategy in NSW schools that was commonly known as the traffic light system. The revised strategy is consistent with the 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines and classifies food and drinks as either Everyday or Occasional. Sugary drinks will continue not to be sold. School Swimming Carnival The annual Corrimal High Swimming carnival was held last week. We had a record number of competitors who enjoyed the festivities of the day. Students dressed in their best "Hawaiian" outfits and got into the spirit of the day. As well as competitive races, students enjoyed 25m races, pool noodle races and kickboard challenges. The first on many.... As part of a local area competition, Corrimal High School and Woonona High School students participated in the first annual Cougars Cup (League), coordinated by Mr Foster (CHS IT) and Mr Adams (CLC Representative). The day consisted of three matches (U14s, Girls League Tag and Mixed League Tag) refereed and MC'd by representative from Rugby League NSW. A Reward for our Efforts in Agriculture

Setting up for success! We have always known that Corrimal High School produces quality fruit and vegetables from our gardens but now we have a ribbon to prove it. The addition of a vertical garden in agriculture donated by the Royal Agricultural Society gave us the opportunity to enter our produce in Nowra show on the 10th and 11th of February.
